Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has secured a decisive victory in the state’s governorship election, polling 319,224 votes to earn a fresh mandate from voters across the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oyebanji winner after the completion of vote collation from all local government areas. The incumbent governor recorded a commanding lead over his closest rivals, winning in the majority of the state’s 16 local government areas.
Announcing the results, INEC officials stated that the election was conducted across the state with voter turnout varying among polling units. Electoral officers completed the collation process amid tight security, while party agents and election observers monitored proceedings.
Supporters of the governor celebrated the outcome, describing the result as an endorsement of his administration’s performance in office. They cited achievements in infrastructure development, education, healthcare, agriculture, and economic empowerment as key factors that influenced voter support.
In his victory remarks, Oyebanji thanked the people of Ekiti State for their confidence in his leadership and pledged to continue delivering policies and projects aimed at improving the welfare of residents. He also called for unity across political divides, urging citizens to work together for the state’s development.
Opposition parties acknowledged the announcement of the results but indicated they would review the conduct of the election before deciding on any further action. Some party officials raised concerns about aspects of the electoral process, while others congratulated the governor on his victory.
Political analysts described the outcome as a significant boost for the ruling party ahead of future elections, noting that the margin of victory reflects strong grassroots support for the incumbent administration. They also observed that local issues and perceptions of governance played a major role in shaping voter decisions.
Election observers commended the generally peaceful conduct of voters and security personnel during the exercise, while urging authorities to continue strengthening electoral processes to enhance public confidence in future polls.
With the election concluded, attention is expected to shift from campaigning to governance. Residents and stakeholders will be looking to the governor’s next term for the implementation of policies that address economic growth, job creation, infrastructure expansion, and improved public services.
The victory marks another important chapter in Ekiti State’s democratic journey, as voters have once again exercised their constitutional right to choose their leaders through the ballot box.
