The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has commended the Federal Government and Nigeria’s security agencies for the rescue of 39 schoolchildren and five teachers abducted in Oyo State.
The victims regained their freedom after spending 56 days in captivity, UNICEF said in a statement on Thursday, describing the rescue as a significant step in protecting children’s right to education and safety.
The organisation also welcomed the arrest of eight suspects in connection with the abduction and urged authorities to ensure those responsible are brought to justice while strengthening measures to safeguard schools across the country.
