The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has intercepted a major cannabis shipment in Lagos, in another blow against drug trafficking networks using Nigeria’s ports.
The haul, valued at about ₦12.3 billion, was reportedly discovered during a joint operation involving NDLEA operatives and port security agencies. Similar recent seizures in Lagos have involved “Canadian Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis hidden in shipping containers and vehicles. (Naija News)
Officials said the operation followed intelligence-led surveillance and cargo profiling, aimed at blocking illicit drugs before they reach local markets. The seized consignment has been transferred for further investigation.
Anti-narcotics authorities say Lagos ports remain a key target for traffickers attempting to move large volumes of drugs into the country. NDLEA officials have vowed to intensify cooperation with Customs and other agencies to dismantle the networks behind the shipments.
The agency warned that cannabis trafficking poses serious health and security risks, especially among young people. Investigators are expected to trace the importers, financiers, and receivers linked to the seized cargo.
The latest bust adds to a series of major drug interceptions in Lagos in recent months, underscoring growing pressure on criminal syndicates operating through Nigeria’s maritime corridors.
