President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described interfaith dialogue as the only sustainable path to lasting peace and security in Nigeria, urging religious leaders to work together in promoting tolerance, unity, and national stability.

Speaking on the need for stronger cooperation among faith communities, Tinubu said Nigeria’s diversity should be treated as a source of strength rather than division. He stressed that security challenges cannot be solved by military action alone, but must also be addressed through trust-building, community engagement, and mutual respect.

The President called on Muslim and Christian leaders to continue preaching peace and discouraging extremism, hate speech, and violence. He said religious institutions play a vital role in shaping public attitudes and can help prevent conflict by promoting understanding across communities.

Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting all citizens, regardless of religion or ethnicity. He noted that the government would continue strengthening security operations while supporting initiatives that encourage dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

Analysts say the President’s remarks reflect growing recognition that Nigeria’s security crisis requires both hard and soft approaches. While troops and police operations remain important, community-led peacebuilding is increasingly seen as essential in preventing recurring violence.

Religious and traditional leaders welcomed the call, saying sustained dialogue can help reduce suspicion, resolve local disputes, and build stronger bonds among Nigerians.

Tinubu urged citizens to reject divisive narratives and support efforts aimed at building a safer, more united country.
