The SKY District Governance Working Group extends its warmest congratulations to Miss Soye Karibi George-Aganaba on her emergence as Miss World Nigeria 2026 following the successful pageant held in Lagos.

The acronym SKY represents the people and communities of Southern Ijaw, Kolokuma/Opokuma, and Yenagoa Local Government Areas of Bayelsa State. The emergence of Queen Soye on the national stage is a source of immense pride and inspiration for the entire district. Her achievement demonstrates that excellence, discipline, determination, and service remain pathways through which young people can attain national and global recognition.

As a distinguished daughter of the SKY District, Queen Soye’s accomplishment is celebrated not merely as a personal victory but as a collective achievement for our people. Her success sends a powerful message to women, girls, and young people across our communities that dreams are valid and attainable when nurtured with dedication, hard work, and integrity.

Speaking on behalf of the SKY District Governance Working Group, Prof. Hephzibah Suobo commended Queen Soye for serving as an exemplary ambassador of Bayelsa State and Nigeria.

“Queen Soye’s achievement is a crown for the entire SKY District. She has become a beacon of hope and a role model for our young women and men. Her journey reminds us that talent, character, and perseverance can open doors to national and international opportunities. We celebrate her and pledge our support as she undertakes the responsibilities associated with her new role.”

The Working Group further announced its intention to strengthen collaboration with Beyond the Labels and other development-focused partners to eliminate discrimination, stereotypes, stigma, and negative social labeling across the SKY District. The initiative seeks to promote inclusion, dignity, equal opportunity, and social protection for all citizens regardless of gender, age, disability, social background, or economic status.

In advancing this agenda, the Working Group reaffirms its commitment to the principles embodied in relevant international and regional instruments, including the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Commonwealth Youth Development framework, the Nairobi Forward-Looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women, and the Protocol to the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa.

The SKY District Governance Working Group believes that sustainable development can only be achieved when women, girls, youth, and vulnerable groups are empowered to participate fully in social, economic, and political life.

Looking ahead, Prof. Suobo expressed his aspiration to represent Bayelsa Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly and emphasized that the district’s development agenda would continue to prioritize youth empowerment, gender equality, education, innovation, and inclusive governance.

The Working Group also looks forward to formally receiving and celebrating Queen Soye within the SKY District at an appropriate time, in recognition of her remarkable achievement and her contributions to promoting positive values among the younger generation.

Once again, the people of Southern Ijaw, Kolokuma/Opokuma, and Yenagoa proudly salute Queen Soye Karibi George-Aganaba and wish her success as she represents Nigeria on larger platforms.
