The attack occurred at about 5:25 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, at the school in Dekina Local Government Area, according to the Kogi State Police Command.
The assailants reportedly stormed the premises while candidates were writing an ongoing NECO examination and took the six victims away.
Police spokesperson ASP Salisu Oyiza confirmed the incident on Wednesday, saying a joint search-and-rescue operation had been launched by the police and other security agencies.
One of the abducted students has since been rescued, while efforts are continuing to secure the release of the principal, the NECO ad hoc official and the remaining three candidates. (ICIR News)
The state commissioner of police, the commander of the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade and Kogi’s security adviser have visited the affected community to assess the situation and coordinate the response.
Authorities said additional security personnel had been deployed to the area and assured residents that efforts were underway to apprehend the attackers and restore normalcy.
The incident has renewed concerns about the safety of schools and examination centres in communities exposed to armed attacks and kidnappings.
