Nigerian superstar and reigning African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman, has completed a move from Atalanta to Atlético Madrid, turning down a lucrative salary offer from Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahçe.
The transfer brings to an end a challenging 18-month period for the 28-year-old forward, who had been pushing for an exit from the Bergamo-based club. Lookman was previously linked with moves to Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, but neither deal materialised.
Atlético Madrid confirmed that Lookman has already arrived in the Spanish capital, where he is set to undergo a medical examination and finalise contract details ahead of his official unveiling.
With the move, Lookman becomes the fourth Super Eagles player currently featuring in La Liga, joining Akor Adams, Chidera Ejuke and Sadiq Umar, and further strengthening Nigeria’s presence in Spain’s top flight.
